The beginning of the same-sex marriages from Kentucky to the US Supreme Court

On July 26, 2013 we went the Federal Courthouse in Louisville to file the Bourke vs . Beshear case. Actually it was filed online but wanted to get a photo of the clients coming out of the Courthouse. We would have filed one in the Eastern District of Kentucky (Louisville is the Western District of Kentucky) first, but had some technical issues. Otherwise the first case we filed would have been Franklin vs. Beshear.

Either way, when we filed we have no idea that or cases, and the Love vs. Beshear cases that came later), would take us to the U.S. Supreme Court. Our cases were merged into the Obgerfell case and in case anyone missed it, love did win.

From that day, July 26, 2013, until the ruling, on June 26, 2015, these cases became my life, and I don’t regret any of it.
